Top Tips for Planning Your Wedding
You’ve said yes, set the date, picked your bridal party and now it’s down to the nitty-gritty of planning. But where do you start? Everyone will be well-meaning and give you plenty of advice on what to do and what not to do but it can be quite overwhelming. To help with your planning we’ve asked our expert event coordinators for their top tips. Some are things that can be done months or weeks in advance, and some are our top tips for planning your wedding. Follow these for a smooth ride into the start of married life.
Know Your Budget
Make a list of everything you think you might need, then write a number next to each item with one being the most important and three being the least. Invest in the number ones and cut corners with the number threes. Just make sure not everything on your list is a number one! So if the dress and styling of the venue are the most important items to you then spend more on them.
Ask Questions
As event coordinators we’ve been asked everything you could imagine. Don’t ever think you’re asking a stupid question. It’s best to be clear and ensure everyone is on the same page, so clarify everything. It’s super important to be really clear and never assume anything. Assumptions can lead to misunderstanding on both sides.
Keep on Track with Bookings
Decide on a process to track the things that you’ve booked, what’s been paid, what needs to be done. Keep a spreadsheet, a notebook or use an app – whatever works for you. Many things will be booked months in advance and it can be time consuming, close to the wedding date, to go back through old emails our text messages to check and confirm bookings.
Be Organised
In your head imagine your wedding date is the week before the actual wedding. This will help you have everything sorted a week ahead of time which will allow you to enjoy the final countdown week. Many brides and grooms are busily doing last minute preparations in the final week and end up exhausted on their wedding day. By giving yourself an early deadline, you’ll arrive fresh and ready to enjoy your special day.
Book Accommodation
Following on from the last tip, booking accommodation for the night or two before the wedding enables you to fully relax and enjoy some fun times with your bridal party without the worry of things that still need to be done.
Have a Bag of Snacks with You
You are the centre of attention for the day. Everyone wants you – they want to talk to you, have photos with you, dance with you and spend their time with you. All of which can get exhausting. Many brides tell us that they don’t even get a chance to eat. So get your bridesmaids to keep a bag of your favourite snacks with them for you and make sure you make the most of those snacks throughout the day. You deserve them!
Enjoy Your Day
You’ve done all the planning and now it’s time to have some fun. Most weddings are very well planned and run smoothly. Your venue and stylists are professionals and work daily to ensure that every wedding is perfect. So trust that everything is taken care of, leave the stress at home, stay calm and enjoy your day.
